Pictures of hermit dwellings
« on: May 01, 2011, 02:00:20 AM »
Post pictures of (nonurban preferably) hermit dwellings.

I was just surfing the net and found some pictures of remote hermit dwellings. What I felt when seeing them was... wistful. Like I wish I could live in some of these places; they're so isolated yet so beatiful. I don't think I would (or want to) live in any of these full time, but just to have as a retreat where I could go sometimes. Or if there's ever a nuclear world war I I'd have a place I could go and hide if I stockpiled food and food plants there.

Anyway, so I can remember flying in a small plane over some of the less populated islands in Hawai'i, and as flew by the sea cliffs on the north side of Molokai, there was this one house at the base of the cliffs. I have no idea how they get in and out, but it must be by boat. I searched but couldn't find a picture on the net of the house but here is the sea cliffs. It was at the base of a cliff that looked like the one at the far left of the picture:

Here's another sea hermit dwelling. Well, they say there's a dwelling on this small island off the coast of Ireland, but I can't see it. Maybe that's it on the right side, but it's fuzzy:

Way up in the mountains in the Aragon region of Spain:

I've always wondered, "how do people just dig a hole in a giant boulder?" I'd do that if I could, but it seems really hard. lol

Where you come from is gone, where you thought you were going to was never there, and where you are is no good unless you can get away from it. Where is there a place for you to be? No place... Nothing outside you can give you any place... In yourself right now is all the place you've got.

A hermit doesn't need two chairs at a table, and where there's one redneck, there's five others.

Man that is one cool house! Though I wonder how it fares in case of a flood or storm.

It would be great to have a hermit dwelling; the only bad thing is if creatures like rats and raccoons and snakes started to come over to your place and they bit you, and you wouldn't know how to ask for help.

To even prehend a glimpse or inaugurate perceiving the complexity of life's transcendental beauty, we must first step back and question ourselves.

That's a cool picture. I would think it's more of a hobo/transient/homeless dwelling (not to say that all of those are the same thing) than a hermit dwelling. But maybe that's just me.

Spot on, :) as a child I always found myself wandering around run down, abandoned facilities and for some reason, always felt at home with the untidy and messy chaos around me.

I used to have a big collection of hermit dwellings in a scrap book i must hoke it out some day.  Mount Athos i believe in Greece (i could be wrong) has a reputation as being the home of hermits religious solitaries and such im sure if you google it you could get some pics.   Abandoned facilities do have a certain charm about them that i also like and if you go on amazon theres an excellent photography book called Beauty in Decay and another photography book that i own called Asylum that features photos of all the old state mental hospitals in their now decayed form, real creepy photos that any fans must check out.
Society is the cave the way out is solitude.

This is where i should be, knitting, writing, or learning to paint at the porch of my house by the lake, my cat's playing with his toys, and sweet vanilla scent coming from the kitchen. Just dreaming xD

Everyday i walk through the forest and lake of hundreds lotus plants. Across the bridge there's a path in the forest to nearby town. There's a river next to the path, and i come to this place everyday for fishing. Not completely hermit :p cos in the town i can trade my cooking, story, some fish, or artwork with meat, tools, catfood, and anything else that i need.

If I was going to be a hermit, I'd want to live in the ground like a hobbit.  People couldn't look in your windows and you wouldn't hear noisy neighbours.  Although the ceilings would need to be a bit higher.

There's actually one of those nearby that I drive past once in awhile. If you want, I could stop the next time I drive past it, take a pic, and send it to you.
