Do you exercise?

Hello. I want to know what do you do for exercise. :-) Do you do pilates, swim, hike, run, crossfit, lift, run? And has it improved your mood? I recently came back from the gym and I felt gloomy before but now I feel better :D And what are your goals? That's it :-)

I exercise a fair amount. Normally I go to the gym - I like how measurable your progress is there. I used to go fencing quite a lot but stopped at the end of last (university) year because the local club wasn't that good. I might get back into it again when next term starts.

I do a lot of walking too but I feel like that's too light to really be exercising; it's more of a sanity thing  :tongue:.

I run, a few times a week, about 3.3 miles.  I'm always trying to learn to swim and go to the YMCA for that, but I'm not sure if I'll ever reach my goal of swimming freestyle down to the deep end and back without a training belt.    But exercise is as much for my psychological well being as physical, so whether I learn to swim or not, I'm going to keep trying.  Much of it's working on getting over my fears.

I can't do exercise for exercise sake...for example, my idea of going to the gym is to take the bus to work.  This forces me to walk daily to the bus stop which is  about half a mile from my house.  After I started using a car, I gained weight...so I am trying to get away from the car.  Take the bus, walk...and it's free.

At the gym I run on a treadmill by following a ten week 8k training for running. I try to run at least once a week, more than once a week consecutively on alternating days when I'm not taking college classes. At home I perform bodyweight workouts by following a ten week program out of a book called You Are Your Own Gym: The Bible of Bodyweight Exercises by Mark Lauren. Again, I try to work out at least once a week. I run on days when I'm not working out and I work out on days when I'm not running. I exercise because it makes me feel good, strong, and powerful, and it relaxes me, increases my energy level, and makes it easier for me to fall asleep at night. I love the high and adrenaline that exercise gives me. I also like the fact that exercising is taking care of myself. It makes everything function well. After exercising, the high that I feel allows me to be less inhibited and be free to behave like my true self, more open, talkative, trusting, less guarded, where I forget that I am sometimes socially anxious in some social situations, that I can be brave without noticing that I'm being brave, where being friendly comes natural to me, comfortable around people.

Edit: My goal is to be able to run an 8k on a treadmill and be bigger and stronger and more muscular.

Of course I exercise! I love to go to the gym and lift, as well as occasionally hop on the treadmill. I play some sports sometimes too when I feel like it. My goals is to just try and take care of my body/stay healthy as well as grow bigger in terms of building muscle. What are your goals?

I do, too. That's one of the few things I've done consistently over the last decade; with some month-long gaps.
I work out at home. Got some weights and equipment.
Goals? To look fit, I guess.
I got on a low-grain diet recently. That has helped immensely. 6-pack seems to be an out-of-reach objective, but I'll settle for a flat stomach.

^6 packs are overrated in my opinion, but to each his own I guess. Personally I find a slim/fit person with no super defined muscles/abs much hotter than a super buff guy, but that's just me.

Exercise can really put me in a good mood. Running is the best, I love a good run, it puts me in such a good mood afterwards. I haven't been exercising much these past few months due to long work hours, but I'm trying to wake up super early and get a run in before work.

Yes--LOTS of walking, everyday for at least an hour.
I sometimes jog; more in cooler seasons.

Yes I have a power rack to do some weights. I'd prefer cardio but my bike rusted and I don't fancy running in the streets. Maybe I'll get a new bike.

I can be pretty egoistic myself, but I try to be a thoughtful and ethical person about it.  I'm afraid I'm not quite as optimistic as you are, but I think a lot of that has to do as much with neurochemistry than anything else.  As long as you're not hurting anybody, I hope your dreams come true.

I've been waiting all summer to finally get back in the pool and see if I can inch my way to learning how to swim.  I was planning to finally haul myself down today, but I've chickened out again.  Somehow this cold weather is a bit unmotivating, and of course, it's been so long and I don't know how much courage I've lost since then.

I'm paying $50 a month and I'm not even using it, and how I'm wasting all this is a little embarrassing,  but I don't want to cancel because then I'd have to go through the process again of re-joining, and that's not very inviting because of my social phobia.  In fact, it's because of my social phobia that I feel so awkward going to the Y and into the pool in the first place, but the benefits of learning how to swim, for me, are worth the trouble.

I'm going to keep trying.  Maybe by next week???

Serotonin--good stuff.

Usually the time I feel best is when the exercise is OVER.  Maybe that's the serotonin or maybe that's laziness, or maybe it's both.

My dogs earn their food by making me go for daily walks.  They just have a small play yard in the back and I know they need the walks.  With one, Tweeter, being smaller, older, and less healthy than the other, I have to walk them separately. (Woofer also earns her food by barking when people come to the door or near the house.)

I also do "strength" exercises from a book, just about 15 minutes a day.

Jeremiah, good for you for trying to learn something new.  And good luck getting over the problems; I know something of how you feel.

I only exercise with my dog usually we walk or go swimming at the beach. Having said that I do walk a lot to get to places and what not but to be honest I don't like getting hot and sweaty.  :cry:

Been swimming 2-3 times a week for months, im actually a bit disgusted with swimming (at public pool), i do it cos i have free pass, & other work out choices are less fun. I swim when the pool's opened at 6, thats when there are less people around, & the cleanest since the pool's cleaned up at night.
