My little corner of random, inspirational stuff...
« on: July 16, 2012, 07:34:48 AM »
This is where I'll post inspiring messages, notes, pictures and other random stuff that I like.  Come and join the fun if you like.  We'll have a super-positivity party.   /skyhug

-------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------

Article No. 1:

"Your life's span is but one day, as if you were born in it and will die at the end of it.  With this attitude you will not be caught in an obsession over the past, and all its anxieties, and the hopes of the future, with all its uncertainties..."Today is my only day" is one of the most important statements in the dictionary of happiness, for those who desire to live life in its fullest splendour and brilliance."

'Aaidh ibn Abdullah al-Qarni, Don't Be Sad. Thanks Sol.

Article No. 2: Elephant Mania

Article No. 3: Remember to smile!

Article No. 4: Additional cheesiness

“Promise me you'll always remember: You're braver than you believe, and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.”

― A.A. Milne

That's enough for one day.

Article No. 5: Make a move

"Nobody ever fell in love without being a little bit brave."
-Commander Shepard
...and what you decide to do every day, you will be a good man - or not.

Article No.6: The Five Noble Truths.

This is rather simple. I'm going to list 5 noble things in the embodiment of video game characters.

Also, go Right+click and view image. Damn things are too big...

Altruism: Robed figure from Journey.

This was really hard, believe it or not. But a representation of good is difficult to find, but I figured our cloak wearing friend does just that. He doesn't do anything remotely violent and even helps a fellow being like himself on his hehe... "Journey." It's just... if I had to pin a character that was good, not who's motive is good or his action are justified as good, just who the character is... it would be this guy.

Nobility: Faith Connors (Faithy!)

Ah, Nobility. Yes this counts as a trait. Mainly because  it's about acting refined and being the best you can be really. And when I think of the word Noble, I get a few things. Donna Noble from Doctor Who, Noble-6 from Halo Reach, a picture of an armored clad knight. But when I think about a video game character, a few come out but Faith stands out from them. She acts in her best interests, never faltering from he ideals plus parkour is just damn cool.

Protection: Subject Delta

Protection of the weak. Nothing more simpler than that. I could literally write for an hour into why Subject Delta is perfect for this, a "Father" searching Rapture for his "Daughter." And even amongst all the evil that Rapture has to offer, Delta can reject it and Eleanor learns from this. Plus being a big daddy is just awesome.

Justice: Ezio Auditore Da Firenze

Now as to why I chose Ezio and the Assassin's in general, you have to see Justice and Vengeance from my point of view.
Now either way, you're going to kill someone right? If you kill the person because they did something personal to you, that is Vengeance/Revenge. If you kill a person because they do something to threaten society, that's Justice... In my opinion.

So when Ezio tracks Rodrigo down and has him in his grasp... he doesn't kill him. Now, if someone murders your whole family, you would be inclined to kill him. But not Ezio. As an agent of Justice, Rodrigo's plans were no more, so he escaped punishment.

Assassin's hold power over life and death. So when they stay their hand, they know the reason why is as if not more important that killing the target.

Sacrifice: Mordin Solus

From the Train wreck that was Mass Effect 3, there were still good stories in there... somewhere. Meet Mordin, an average salarian doctor who is somewhat in a moral quandary about helping to re-develop the Genophage, a biological weapon that was deployed against the Krogan to stop them from taking over the galaxy.

Now not only does he have a great personality: talking really fast, using large words with scientific meaning, studying culture and philosophy as well as science and the odd bit of Gilbert and Sullivan. He did something I really didn't expect.

In Mass Effect 2, he was a cool guy. Mainly because of his personality. But when he declared "I made a Mistake!" in working on the Genophage and declares going up to the tower to fix it. Both Shepard and Mordin knew it would be a one way trip. He says "Has to be me. Someone else might have gotten it wrong." and "Would have liked to run tests on sea shells." The latter statement concerning what he would do in retirement.

He then goes up to the tower, reverses the sabotage and dies in an explosion, seconds before singing the same Gilbert and Sullivan song. This effect meant the Krogan were free from the Genophage and the whole piece was set to the music of 'Vigil,' the intro music used in the first Mass Effect and also used when talking to Vigil.

Yeah... Heroic Sacrifices are special. But this one was done right... And yeah, it got to me.

Article 7: Active imagining.

This is rather simple. It's overlaying imagination and reality. Now, it may be "Unhealthy" and "Dangerous," but be reasonable. If I'm waiting for the bus, or staring up at the sky at night. It's not hard to imagine say... a Reaper from Mass Effect on the horizon. Another complex one is imagining the town I live to be in the middle of a wasteland... or on fire.
Just... yeah, that probably speaks of deeper issues but put that aside. Just try it and see if it works.
Sailing through the Sea of Stars.

Article No. 7: Become The Peaceful Warrior
Watch the most inspirational movie (according to yours truly ). Based on Dan Millman's semi-fictional book. Filled with everything related to self-esteem to self-discovery to focus to happiness. Watch this one! You owe it to yourself.  You can read the book too, someday.

Some quotes from the movie/book:
-The journey is what brings us happiness not the destination-
-You can live a whole life time never being awake-
-There are no ordinary moments-

Where are you?
Here.
What time is it?
Now.
What are you?
This moment.

Article no.8 : Look down once a while, dont look "up" all the time.
Stop comparing ourselves with people with more success, more money, more happiness, and so on; therefore we can be more grateful with what we already possess :)

Article No. 9 : Uncover The Secret
Documentary based on an international bestseller by the same name. It argues that circumstances are created by thoughts. You get what you focus on. There a lot of truth in 'What you think about, comes about'. Of course, you need to take action to be successful but our thoughts are where we start. I like this doc. Another healthy dish  to be served at this Positive Party.
